The topic foremost on the mind of every soon-to-be-bride is finding that perfect wedding dress. Then comes the jewelry, the make-up, and the hairstyle.
What is put off for the last minute rushed shopping is the wedding shoes when in fact they should be one of the first things to be finalized. The reason being that you'll be wearing them for hours on end on your wedding day. And if they are not comfortable and right fit, might give you some very painful moments which might ruin your big day. The discomfort will also show on your face, and hence ruin your wedding pictures too.
Sooo sorry! for painting such a dreadful scenario. It is just to establish how important it is to choose your wedding shoes correctly so that you walk like a princess you are, in your wedding finery.
Here are some tips and suggestions to help you choose your shoes right. Hope you will find them helpful.
1. DON'T COMPROMISE ON COMFORT
As I mentioned earlier, you'll be spending hours in yours shoes. Be it greeting your guests, during the wedding ceremony or the after wedding rituals, you just can't predict for how long you'll be standing and walking around in those shoes. It is therefore highly recommended that you don't compromise comfort for fashion.
If your are not too comfortable wearing high heels but want to add inches, then opt for shoes with broad bases, like platforms, blocks or wedges. Stilettos should be a complete No-No if you have never worn them before. Wearing them for long hours is a challenge even for the most seasoned models.
2. KEEP IN MIND THE DRESS LENGTH
When choosing your shoes, always keep the length of your wedding dress in mind. In case you haven't already chosen your dress but have a specific color in mind, you can choose a couple of pairs matching that color. I personally feel that it is best to first choose your dress but have them altered or customized only once you have chosen your matching shoes. This way you can determine on the length of the hemline. Believe me, you would not want your dress to be excessively long and coming in your way with every step you take.

3. CHOOSE STATEMENT SHOES
Gone are the days when wedding shoes meant gold or silver. Most modern bride like to make a statement with their shoes. Choose bright bold colors like magenta, hot pink or blue but see to it that it goes with your outfit. eg.
If your dress is baby pink in color, then you can choose bright pink shoes to go with them. Grab a classy and chic design for the day.
4. SHOP DURING THE DAY
I would recommend going for your shoe shopping during the day. The reason being that during daytime, your feet will be in your most natural shape. Due to all the walking and stress, your feet will be a little bit swollen and bigger than your normal size and so might not be the best fit for you.
5. KEEP IN MIND THE WEDDING VENUE
It is always best to select you shoes keeping in mind the wedding venue. eg. if yours will be a beach wedding, then avoid choosing heavy bulky heels as they might prove to be very uncomfortable on sand. Stilettos and pointy heels should also be avoided at all costs and they will sink into the sand and will cause you trouble walking. Flats are the best choice for the beach weddings.
6. CHOOSE WELL IN ADVANCE
Don't buy your shoes a day or two before the wedding. Instead buy them well in advance. This way you can try them out regularly and get used to them. Most brides wear their shoes for the first time on their wedding day but end up getting painful shoe-bites as most new shoes tend to give.
7. KEEP AN EXTRA PAIR
I would recommend keeping an extra pair for emergencies. Just in case the heel breaks or bites too much, having an extra pair can save your day.
So these are some very basic suggestions for getting your shoes right. Hope you will benefit from them. Do write to me for your feedback.
